Egypt’s Economy is Showing Strong Signs of Recovery: IMF

Christine Lagarde, Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), revealed that Egypt’s economy is witnessing strong signs of recovery, Invest-Gate reports.

Lagarde added “the country’s economic growth is among the highest in the Middle East,” thanks to its economic reform program that is supported by the IMF’s USD 12 bn Extended Fund Facility (EFF), according to an official statement.

In the same statement, she highlighted “the importance of capitalizing on Egypt’s macroeconomic gains to advance the authorities’ home-grown structural reforms.”

“These reforms will help achieve more sustainable, inclusive and private-sector led growth which will help create jobs for Egypt’s young population, while also ensuring adequate resources are available for social protection,” she concluded.

Lagarde’s statement followed her meeting with President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi on September 23 in New York on the sidelines of the 73rd session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 73).
