Minister of Tourism Rania Al Mashat has announced the opening of Egypt’s pavilion at the World Travel Market (WTM) in London, attempting to provide visitors with “an immersive glimpse of what the country has to offer to suit all tastes and budgets,” Invest-Gate reports.
“International potential travelers will experience the diversity of our destinations such as the Red Sea and the Sinai Trail first hand through the use of technology,” the tourism minister said on her official Instagram page on November 5.
According to Al Mashat, the tourism ministry is also featuring a maquette of the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM), alongside an augmented reality of King Ramses II.
The leading global event for the travel industry, which was held from November 5-7, aimed at highlighting the MENA region’s travel and tourism industries and to host global and regional expertise to discuss aspects of such a vital sector.
According to the latest “City Travel and Tourism Impact Report” by the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC), Cairo tops the list for the fastest growing cities in travel and tourism activity, constituting 34% of the country’s GDP in 2017.
While tourism is on the rise, the report underlines that “it remains well below its 2010 peak,” when an estimated number of 14.7 mn tourists visited Egypt and generated USD 12.5 bn in revenue.
