The new international branch of Cairo University in 6th of October City, west Cairo, is slated for inauguration in the academic year 2020/21, Invest-Gate reports.
Coming in line with the state’s plans of underpinning a global leap for Egyptian universities, the 575-acre project has been developed, in terms of construction and equipment, to cope with the needs of local and international labor market programs, Transport Minister Kamel El Wazir said on August 3 on his official Facebook page.
Additionally, the blueprint takes account of the preservation of the ancient cultural and architectural heritage of the original Cairo University, which is a historical and civilizational footprint among academic institutions in the Middle East, El Wazir explained, noting that the latest branch is being established in cooperation with some of the most prestigious universities in the world.
Aimed at perfectly modernizing the educational process, the newest premises will encompass a diverse range of research and science centers, custom-made labs, in addition to the first building in Egypt for animal research studies. A sports stadium is also underway on campus, extending over 171,432 square meters and accommodating up to 20,000 spectators. Besides, a dormitory is under construction on nearly 260 square meters, predominantly allocated for foreign students, the minister further stated.
In April 2018, President of Cairo University Mohamed Othman Elkhosht laid the foundation stone of the new branch, in a ceremony attended by a number of senior officials, faculty deans and professors, higher education experts, among other dignitaries.
