Minya’s Samalout Axis to Open by Year-End

Minya’s 24-kilometer-long Samalout Axis, which entails establishing 30 bridges and 17 tunnels, and is part of seven axes being carried out over the Nile River at a total cost of EGP 9.5 bn, is set to be finalized by year-end, Invest-Gate reports.

The highway comes in the course of the ministry’s plan to link roads stretching along the eastern and western edges of the river, Transport Minister Kamel El Wazir briefed Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly on September 7 during his tour to inspect progress on underway development projects in Minya, according to a recent ministerial statement.

The prime minister was accompanied by Minister of Investment and International Cooperation Sahar Nasr, Minister of Local Development Mahmoud Shaarawy, among other officials, where he mandated the swift finalization of hospitals under construction in the governorate before year-end, which are so far 88% completed.

During the visit, Madbouly and Minister of Tourism Rania Al-Mashat have agreed to develop a vision for means of restoring tourism in the governorate and strengthening its standing as a top tourist destination. He noted that work is in full swing to finish Minya’s Athenian Museum, which is deemed one of the most important archaeological projects in Egypt and is being revamped with fundings totaled at EUR 20 mn, notably from German entities.

He also called on officials to speed up the implementation of Minya’s promenade – or Corniche, which extends for seven kilometers long and is poised to be a civilized facade of the province, emphasizing that the three-phase project must be done by the end of 2019.

On his part, Shaarawy underlined that a total of EGP 1.3 bn was allocated for the advancement of five areas in Upper Egypt, EGP 250 mn of which were directed for various development and service projects in Minya only.

On the sidelines of the tour, the organization of an economic conference to promote investment opportunities in Minya has been proposed, in an attempt to raise awareness on the potential opportunities available within various industries.
