Housing Minister Follows up on Sanitation Projects in Rural Areas

Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities Assem El Gazzar followed up on the projects that are part of the Sustainable Rural Sanitation Services Program (SRSSP) Program for Results (P for R), Invest-Gate reports.

This comes in line with the government’s directives to accelerate the implementation of national projects, especially in the sanitation, according to a ministerial statement on April 22.

Moreover, the project management unit (PMU) affiliated to the ministry is keen on monitoring the timetables for “P for R” projects, which are funded by a World Bank loan of USD 550 mn, the statement noted.

The projects include implementation of 167,000 home connections to serve about 833,000 people in governorates such as Dakahlia, the statement continued.

El Gazzar noted, “All preventive and precautionary precautions should be taken to protect workers at potable water and sewage projects against the new coronavirus.”

Sayed Ismail, deputy minister of housing for infrastructure affairs and head of PMU, said: “It is very important to adhere to timetables set for these sewage projects, while overcoming any obstacles that may affect the implementation process to overcome any obstacles or any delay.”
