Atkins, a building consultancy company, will launch the master plan for a new city in Duqm, Oman, located near the city’s huge new port, reported The National.
The company is expected to develop Duqm through a master plan that will cover 150 square kilometers that will include five distinct districts, including upcoming residential, commercial, mixed-use, logistics, and tourism developments.
The cost of the development is $10.7 billion, and will include a new port, dry dock, and industrial area worth $4 billion. A Chinese consortium signed a contract in May to build the city over 50 years.
The first phase of the project will be divided into four stages and developed within 30 weeks, according to Atkins, which also stated that the plan will focus on developing a technical feasibility study, environmental and sustainability assessments, concept designs, tourism strategy, and a drainage plan.
