Second Phase of Jordanian Airport Completed

A group led by Abu Dhabi-based financial services company, Airport International Group, and Abu Dhabi Investment have finalized the second phase of the Queen Alia International Airport (QAIA) in Amman Jordan, reported WAM.

The second phase includes a new terminal project that will measure on 43,000 square meters that will increase passenger capacity from 7 million to 12 million passengers and there are also future plans to increase the capacity to 16 million per year.

The cost of the expansion is $ 214 million, adding 12 more doors and two fixed link bridges to accommodate the world’s largest airplane, the Airbus A380, stated Gulf News.

The expansion will also include two new  business lounges, two new duty-free areas, new prayer rooms, large monitors, charging stations, upgraded Wi-Fi system, ten more travelators, 24 escaltors, 18 elevators, and enhancement of the transit process.

The airport has hit new passenger traffic success as it witnessed growth in its airline network, and gained great rankings made by the Airports Council International Airport Service Quality Survey which is a global airport passenger satisfaction benchmark program.

The airport managed to accommodate 12 million passengers that records an increase from 2007 that witnessed 3.8 million passengers; it was also awarded the first place in 2014 and 2015 for outstanding performance under the category of ‘Best Airport by Region: Middle East’ and ‘Best Improvement by Region: Middle East’ category.
