Disputes have arisen between tenants and landlords in Abu Dhabi as a result of a prior official decision, according to real estate exerts, to increase rental rates by 5% in 2013, reported Al Bayan.
The decision reportedly resulted in property owners increasing rental rates of their homes by 50% to 100%.
The disputes are mostly in middle-income neighborhoods, where tenants have urged immediate government intervention to determine a fixed rental rate increase.
The Abu Dhabi Judicial Department announced that about 27 rent disputes unfolded daily last year, compared to an average of 13 cases in 2010, claiming that disputes have more than doubled, according to Zawya.
