Saudi Government Authorizes Infrastructure Projects within Tourism Sector

Twenty-four new infrastructure projects have been been authorized by the Saudi government, to include 17 hotel buildings in the Asir region, in a bid to boost the kingdom’s tourism sector, Trade Arabia reported citing a reported.

The concept behind these hotels is to serve as an all-year attraction, according to Saudi Gazette quoting the Saudi Commission for Tourism and National Heritage (SCTH).

“There will be a total of four new five-star hotels in Abha – two each in Khamis Mushayt and Bisha besides a four-star property each in Abha, Bisha, Al Namas, Tanawamah and Bariq,” Head of SCTH, Mohammad Al Umrah said.

Additionally, three-star hotel buildings are due to be established in Abha, Khamis Mushayt, Ahad Rufaidah and Al Birak, he added.

Asir has witnessed a fast-growing hospitality sector at a 53% rate, which has transformed it into a tourist attraction, Al Umrah noted, adding that these upcoming projects will boost tourism in general.

Saudi Arabia has been targeting tourism and hospitality sectors, through increasing the hotel stock and undertaking related infrastructure projects, according to the Oxford Business Group report.
