Dubai is planning to open for bids for road projects amounting to AED 4 billion ($ 1.1 billion) to upgrade transport links in the city, Chairman of Dubai Roads and Transport Authority, Mattar Al Tayer told Bloomberg.
“There’s a lot of cuts in projects in neighboring countries. Investing in infrastructure is one of the policies which the Dubai government has taken to steer the economy,” he told Bloomberg.
Dubai’s transport authority is currently studying the possibility to increase road tolls within 3 years, in order to pay for the transportation upgrade projects, Al Tayer added
Traffic in Dubai cost the economy in 2013 over AED 771,000 per kilometer in fuel and lost time.
Salik toll gates were set up in Dubai by the Roads and Transport Authority in 2008, including gates in Al Barsha, Al Garhoud Bridge, Al Maktoum Bridge, Al Mamzar, Al Safa and Dubai Airport Tunnel.
