GAFI Discussions Ongoing to Develop Taba-Nuweiba Region

There are ongoing discussions by the General Authority for Investment (GAFI) to put Taba and  Nuweiba on the global investment map for tourism and investment, said member of the Nuweiba-Taba Tourism Investors Association, Hany Gawish, according to Daily News Egypt.

Th Nuweiba Taba Region has about 7 hotels in operation, 70 hotels under construction of which 28 are halted due to bureaucratic procedures, said Gawish.

Gawish requested the establishment of a private commercial area in the region to aid in boosting trade from Chairperson of GAFI, Mohammed Khudair in a meeting conducted last week.

Additionally, GAFI’s president has initiated contact with all government solutions to discuss and find potential solutions to obstacles faced by investors in the region, according to a statement issued by Nuweiba-Taba Tourism Investors Association.

The region is a gateway for 25% of tourism to Egypt yet it is deprived of the government’s support and sees little investment, said Head of the Taba and Nuweiba Investors Association, Sami Suleiman.

Suleiman also announced his plan to present new projects aimed at revitalizing the region as well as new methods to work with state bodies in solving issues.

The Association had recently launched a conference in May in the area to attract internationals and domestic tourism to the region and has called upon the government to form a crisis committee to combat the challenges facing the region.
