Serving New Cairo and New Capital: Housing Minister Inspects Purification Plant

Egypt’s Housing Minister Assem El-Gazzar inspected the drinking water purification plant in New Cairo, which has a design capacity of one mn cubic meters  (m3) per day, Invest-Gate reports.

The plant serves New Cairo city as well as the country’s New Administrative Capital. It currently operates at 500,000 m3 capacity for its first phase.

El-Gazzar directed workers to speed completion of the second phase to allow partial operation at 700,000 m3 before next summer. Once fully operational, the second phase will increase the plant’s total capacity to 700,000 m3 daily, sufficient to serve 3.5 mn people.

During his visit, El-Gazzar toured plant facilities and control systems. He was briefed on laboratory water sampling conducted around the clock.

Accompanying the minister were Housing Ministry officials, including Deputy Minister for Infrastructure Sayed Ismail, as well as New Urban Communities Authority and New Cairo Development Authority representatives.
