Egypt’s Housing Minister Follows Up on the Progress of Work on Projects in New Sohag City

Egyptian Minister of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities Assem El-Gazzar followed up on the latest developments of various projects in New Sohag City, Invest-Gate reports.

New Sohag City, spanning 30,351.4 feddans, is one of the third generation cities of the New Urban Communities Authority.

El-Gazzar said the projects include building housing units under the presidential initiative “Housing for All Egyptians”, offering residential plots for citizens to build homes, and allocating over 42 investment land plots for commercial, administrative, educational, medical, sports and other facilities.

This aims to increase development and create diverse job opportunities in the governorate. Other projects involve road improvements, extending utilities, agriculture, beautification, and more.

Mohamed Abdullah Youssef, Head of the New Sohag Development Authority, stated that 1,008 housing units have been completed under the presidential initiative, with 90 sqm 3-bedroom units. Another 180 2-bedroom 75 sqm units are underway to meet demand. So far, 13,107 small residential plots have been offered in premium to average categories.

This year, a 42-classroom primary school was built and opened. A EGP 32 mln primary school is underway, along with two private schools allocated to investors. More than 20 commercial shops were sold via auction in some city areas, along with administrative units, a vegetable refrigerator, warehouses, hypermarket, and supply department retail branch to facilitate citizens.

Youssef added a 200-bed university hospital was built on 8.6 feddans at a cost of EGP 560 mln. A 263-bed children’s hospital on 6.6 feddans costing EGP 712 mln nears completion.
