Housing Minister Oversees Kitchener Drain Water Quality Project in Three Governorates

Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities Assem El-Gazzar has chaired a meeting to oversee progress on the Water Quality Improvement Project at the Kitchener Drain in Egypt, Invest-Gate reports.

The project, conducted in collaboration with international development partners, aligns with Egypt’s pursuit of sustainable rural development and safeguarding the nation’s water resources.

Moreover, the meeting included the presence of Sayed Ismail, Deputy Minister of Housing for Infrastructure Affairs, and Mamdouh Raslan, Chairman of the Holding Company for Drinking Water and Sanitation.

El-Gazzar emphasized expediting the vital project’s implementation, adhering to timelines, and ensuring the highest quality and efficiency in execution.

Furthermore, the Kitchener Drain stands as Egypt’s largest sanitation drain, established in 1899, spanning 69 km from Gharbia Governorate through Dakahlia Governorate to its endpoint at Kafr El-Sheikh Governorate, where it empties into the Mediterranean Sea.

Highlighting Egypt’s significant advancements in water services, El-Gazzar underscored President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s tenure, marking a substantial leap in drinking water, sanitation, and agricultural drainage services.

Notably, Egypt has embraced a policy of safe water reuse, complying with the latest global standards, and redirecting treated water for specific purposes rather than mere disposal, aiming to maximize water resource utilization.
