Egypt New Delta Plant Becomes World’s Largest with Four Guinness Records

The New Delta Irrigation Water Treatment Plant, constructed by a joint venture including Orascom Construction, Hassan Allam Construction, Arab Contractors, and Metito, has been recognized by Guinness World Records as the world’s largest water treatment facility, Invest-Gate reports.

This significant achievement was celebrated at a ceremony attended by representatives from the joint venture companies and high-ranking government officials, including Hani Sweilem, Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, and Major General Ahmed Al-Azzazi, Head of the Armed Forces Engineering Authority.

The plant, a monumental project under the mandate of the Ministry of Defence’s Armed Forces Engineering Authority, has earned four Guinness World Records: the largest water treatment facility, the most extensive and operationally robust plant, the largest area for epoxy coating in structures, and the biggest sludge treatment plant. These accolades highlight the plant’s impressive capabilities, which include treating 7.5 million cubic meters of agricultural drainage water daily, crucial for reclaiming and developing 2 million feddans in the western Delta region.

Hassan Allam, CEO of Hassan Allam Holding, praised the achievement as a testament to the capabilities of Egyptian companies in executing large-scale projects.

Spanning over 320,000 sqm, the plant operates at a capacity of 86.8 cubic meters per second and has a sludge treatment capability of 670.01 kg per second. Karim Madwar, CEO of Metito Egypt and Managing Director of Metito Africa, expressed pride in Egypt’s efforts to expand water treatment projects and highlighted this milestone in Metito’s 65-year history.

Ahmed El-Assar, CEO of Arab Contractors, lauded the project for its record completion time and 100% Egyptian labor involvement.

Also, Osama Bishai, CEO of Orascom Construction, emphasized the company’s commitment to innovative and sustainable solutions in the water sector.
