Egypt Completes Major Water, Sanitation Projects in Gharbia Under President Sisi

Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities Sherif El Sherbini has announced the completion of 10 major drinking water projects in the Gharbia Governate, including constructing and expanding water treatment plants and networks with a capacity of 300,000 cubic meters per day, Invest-Gate reports.

Moreover, 343 sanitation projects have been completed, including those under the first phase of the presidential Haya Karima (“Decent Life”) initiative to develop rural Egypt, with a total investment of EGP 7.3 billion.

El Sherbini highlighted that these projects were completed under the successful leadership of Egyptian President Abdelfattah El Sisi, pointing to the government’s unwavering commitment to further enhancing water services in Gharbia. Five water projects are nearing completion, demonstrating the ongoing efforts to improve service quality and increase water pressure.

Furthermore, these projects include the Qutour Water Network, expansions at the Samanoud Water Plant, and the completion of water networks in Basyoun, Mahalla, and Samanoud.

Four urban sanitation projects are also underway, each crucial to improving living conditions in Gharbia. These projects include completing sewage systems in Mahalla and Kafr El Zayat and constructing sewage treatment plants in Shubraqas and Qaloula.

Ehab Khedr, Chairman of the National Authority for Drinking Water and Sanitation, noted that 63.5% of Gharbia’s rural areas, home to 2.9 million people, are now served by sanitation services.

Notably, ongoing efforts are focused on extending these services to an additional 86 rural areas, covering 16.3% of the rural population.
