Manal Awad, Minister of Local Development, participated today in the ministerial roundtable titled “Multi-Level Governance for a Sustainable Urban Future,” held as part of the second day of the 12th session of the Urban Forum (WUF12), hosted by Cairo from November 4 to 8, Invest-Gate reports.
Anacláudia Rossbach, United Nations Under-Secretary-General and Executive Secretary of the UN-Habitat, joined the event along with numerous ministers and senior officials from around the world.
Awad emphasized the commitment of Egypt’s political leadership to advancing the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly in fostering sustainable urban development.
She highlighted the government’s work over the past decade to strengthen local governance and promote decentralization in implementing policies and projects, in line with both the national and global urban agendas for balanced, inclusive development.
The Minister underscored the importance of empowering local governments to take a more active role in guiding sustainable development at both local and national levels. This aligns with Egypt’s Vision 2030, prioritizing multi-level partnerships to improve citizens’ quality of life and supporting broader national efforts to achieve sustainable development inspired by international goals.
Furthermore, Awad stressed the need for integration between central and local authorities and reinforced multi-level governance as a crucial objective for the Egyptian government.
