Egypt’s Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, Sherif El Sherbini, emphasized the future of green cities as essential for sustainable and resilient living, Invest-Gate reports.
Speaking at a press conference to launch the Green Urban Strategy during the second day of the World Urban Forum in Cairo, El Sherbini highlighted these cities’ critical role in harmonizing urban life with environmental sustainability.
“Green cities represent a future where urban living and the environment coexist seamlessly,” El Sherbini said. “By adopting sustainable practices and technologies, these cities set examples for others, paving the way for a healthier planet and communities.”
Moreover, El Sherbini outlined Egypt’s new Green Building Strategy, which focuses on increasing energy efficiency to reduce emissions, cut costs, and stimulate job creation and innovation. He described the strategy as a significant step toward a sustainable urban future that integrates environmental, economic, and social goals.
“Green construction involves managing and optimizing water and energy use, promoting sustainable building materials, integrating renewable energy sources, and establishing sustainable urban mobility systems,” he explained. “Our key objectives include reducing carbon emissions, improving air quality, enhancing renewable energy, conserving water resources, and expanding green spaces.”
The minister acknowledged the challenges in achieving green urban development but stressed the necessity of overcoming them through innovative solutions and collaborative efforts.
“By committing to environmental and social responsibility, cities can transform into vibrant, sustainable communities that serve as models for the future,” El Sherbini stated.
