Egypt’s commitment to supporting local and foreign investment was reaffirmed as Major General Engineer Kamel Al Wazir, Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Industry and Transport, and Éric Chevallier, French Ambassador to Cairo, toured Schneider Electric’s Badr City plant, Invest-Gate reports. The visit aimed to review the latest expansions, production lines, and digital solutions at the facility, highlighting its role in advancing Egypt’s industrial sector.
The delegation was welcomed by Sebastien Riez, CEO of Schneider Electric Northeast Africa & Levant, along with senior executives. They presented the company’s state-of-the-art facilities, which serve as the largest of their kind in the Middle East and Africa. Established in 2009, the plant spans 44,600 m², with 16,000 m² dedicated to high-tech production. Its annual output includes 9,000 medium-voltage units, 3,000 low-voltage units, and 18 kilometers of busways, all powered by Schneider Electric’s EcoStruxure technology for efficiency and carbon neutrality.
Schneider Electric has significantly expanded its operations in Egypt.A EUR 10 mn investment in 2020 introduced a new production line for electrical panels, followed by an additional EUR 8 mn in 2023 to expand low and medium-voltage panel production. The facility now exports over 40% of its output to 35 countries, including Saudi Arabia, France, and Kenya. Locally sourced components in its products have reached 81%, with a target of 85% by 2025.
Minister Kamel Al Wazir reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting domestic industries and resolving investment challenges. “This visit aligns with our plan to enhance Egypt’s industrial sector, focusing on high-quality, cost-effective manufacturing for local and export markets,” he said.
French Ambassador Éric Chevallier praised Schneider Electric’s contributions to Egypt’s economy, emphasizing its role in technological innovation, skills development, and export growth.
Sebastien Riez, CEO of Schneider Electric Northeast Africa & Levant, expressed gratitude for the visit, stating, “This reflects the Egyptian government’s strong focus on industrial expansion and reinforces the deepening partnership between Egypt and France.”
