Housing Minister Discusses Expanding Cooperation with EBRD Officials

Egypt’s Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, Sherif El Sherbini, met with Sue Barrett, Head of Infrastructure for Europe and the Middle East and Africa at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), to explore ways to enhance collaboration between the ministry and the bank, Invest-Gate reports.

El Sherbini welcomed Barrett and her delegation, emphasizing Egypt’s commitment to expanding partnerships with international development institutions to support key infrastructure projects.

The discussion covered EBRD-funded projects, including the wastewater development project in Fayoum’s Qarun Lake region, which serves 44 villages, and the sanitation services program in Kafr El Sheikh, benefiting 62 villages. El Sherbini expressed interest in extending cooperation to new projects within the ministry’s scope.

For her part, Barrett praised Egypt’s rapid development efforts and reaffirmed EBRD’s commitment to supporting major infrastructure projects, given their role in economic growth and sustainable development.

Both sides reviewed ongoing and future joint initiatives, particularly in water, sanitation, and urban development. Discussions also included Egypt’s nationwide rural development program under the “Decent Life” initiative, aimed at improving infrastructure in rural areas.

The meeting concluded with an agreement to maintain ongoing coordination to identify priority projects for future collaboration, ensuring smooth execution with EBRD’s technical and financial backing.
