Housing Minister Discusses Water Desalination and Infrastructure Projects with Military Engineering Authority

Housing Minister Sherif El Sherbini met yesterday with Major General Tarek Fathy El-Weshahi, Director of the Water Department at the Armed Forces Engineering Authority, to discuss ongoing joint projects, particularly seawater desalination plants and other infrastructure developments, Invest-Gate reports. The meeting, held at the minister’s office in the New Administrative Capital, was attended by ministry officials.

El Sherbini emphasized the importance of maximizing the benefits of investments in infrastructure, particularly in drinking water and sanitation projects, in line with directives from the political leadership. He reiterated that the Housing Ministry has a long-term strategic plan for seawater desalination extending to 2050. The minister also stressed the need for efficient operation and maintenance of completed projects, particularly desalination plants, to preserve investments in the utilities sector.

The discussions covered the status of desalination plants in the northwest coastal region, particularly in Sidi Heneish and Matrouh, as well as facilities in Port Said and the Red Sea governorate. The meeting also addressed the ongoing implementation of Alexandria’s integrated rainwater management strategy, led by the Armed Forces’ Water Department. Several projects have already been completed, resolving flooding issues in key areas, while others are still underway in coordination with local authorities and Alexandria University.

Both parties reaffirmed the importance of ongoing cooperation between the Housing Ministry and the Armed Forces Engineering Authority to ensure projects are completed according to schedule and meet the highest standards.
