Egypt, AfDB Ink USD 150 mn Deal to Revamp Abu Rawash Wastewater Plant

Egypt and the African Development Bank Group (AfDB) signed a USD 150 mn agreement on Tuesday to boost the efficiency of the Abu Rawash wastewater treatment plant, Invest-Gate reports.

Egypt’s cabinet agreed with a company to implement the project over a period of 36 months through an Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contract, increasing the plant’s primary treatment capacity by 400,000 cubic meter per day to a total of 1.6 mn cubic meter.

Under the agreement, the company will be responsible for the operation and maintenance of the station for three years.

This agreement comes as part of a USD 3 bn joint strategy signed between Egypt and AfDB in December 2015.

In mid-December 2017, the AfDB approved to finance the “Sustainable Development of the Abu-Rawash Wastewater Treatment Plant” in Giza for USD 150 mn.
