Ministry of Housing Appoints Eng. Tarek El Gamal to the Egyptian Council for Green Building and Sustainable Cities

The Ministry of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities has appointed Eng. Tarek El Gamal, Chairman of Redcon Group and Redcon Properties, as a member of the Egyptian Council for Green Building and Sustainable Cities. The move reflects the government’s commitment to engaging the private sector in shaping policies that promote sustainable urban development, Invest-Gate reports.

The council aims to monitor the implementation of Egypt’s strategy for sustainable urbanization and green construction while formulating policies and proposals that advance the adoption of green building and smart city concepts in line with Egypt’s Vision 2030 for integrated and sustainable development.

The selection of Eng. El Gamal underscores the state’s recognition of the private sector’s vital role in supporting national development plans. Redcon was among Egypt’s pioneering companies to adopt green building principles as early as 2008, integrating sustainability into its construction strategy through energy-efficient designs, resource management, and carbon footprint reduction—positioning the company as a leader in promoting sustainable urban growth.

Commenting on his appointment, Eng. Tarek El Gamal, Chairman of Redcon Group and Redcon Properties, expressed his appreciation to the Ministry of Housing, noting that the decision crowns years of continuous work in the field of green building and sustainability. He emphasized that the council will play a pivotal role in developing policies and standards to ensure the adoption of green building principles across both public and private projects. He added that enhanced collaboration between stakeholders will help achieve balance between economic growth and environmental protection.

The appointment also reflects the government’s strategic direction toward empowering leading private companies to take part early in shaping policies that drive the transition to more environmentally efficient and sustainable cities—boosting competitiveness and fostering harmony between economic development and environmental conservation.
