Somabay Signs New Cooperation Agreement With EDECS To Expand And Upgrade Its Marina Infrastructure

Somabay, the leading Red Sea coastal destination, has signed a new cooperation agreement with EDECS, a prominent regional engineering and construction company, to launch the second phase of the marina expansion and infrastructure development project, Invest-Gate reports.

Under this partnership, EDECS will develop the existing marina facilities and increase its capacity to accommodate more luxury yachts, reinforcing Somabay’s standing as a premier marine destination in Egypt.

The collaboration builds on the successful track record between the two companies in previous infrastructure projects. With more than three decades of experience across the Middle East and Africa, EDECS is recognized as a reliable strategic partner for specialized maritime developments.

The new phase will add approximately 72,130 cubic meters to the marina’s basin, increasing the total capacity to around 260 yachts, while also upgrading existing facilities and constructing an extended waterfront area. The development aims to deliver an enhanced guest experience and further support the growing demand from visitors.

Eng. Ibrahim El-Messiri, CEO of Somabay, explained that the project marks another step in Somabay’s long-term development strategy. He emphasized the company’s focus on elevating service quality, expanding marina capabilities, and optimizing the site’s natural coastal appeal to ensure sustainable growth. He also affirmed the strong confidence in EDECS as a partner with global-standard expertise in marine construction.

Dr. Mahmoud Hassanein, Vice Chairman of EDECS, expressed the company’s pride in undertaking such a vital development that reflects its continued leadership in high-level maritime projects. He noted that EDECS is committed to delivering an expansion that exceeds international standards in quality, helping strengthen the Red Sea’s competitive position among the world’s top luxury marine tourism destinations.

The project reflects EDECS’s dedication to applying the highest safety, sustainability, and engineering standards throughout all phases of execution. The company continues to deliver major maritime infrastructure works in ports, bridges, irrigation networks, and coastal development across Egypt and the region.

The Somabay marina expansion represents a key milestone within the destination’s long-term strategy to enhance core infrastructure and elevate the tourism experience for global travelers seeking world-class leisure, sailing, and waterfront luxury on the Red Sea.
