MIDAR for Investment and Urban Development, the master developer of Mostakbal City and Mada in New Cairo, announced a contribution valued at nearly EGP 65mn to Ain Shams University, directed toward the acquisition of advanced research equipment for the university’s Nanotechnology Center. The move comes as part of MIDAR’s broader commitment to corporate social responsibility and long-term investment in scientific research and innovation.
The announcement followed the signing of a cooperation protocol between MIDAR and Ain Shams University, aimed at strengthening the university’s research infrastructure and supporting applied scientific and medical research through the provision of specialized laboratory equipment. Senior representatives from both sides attended the signing ceremony.
The initiative is in line with Egypt’s national strategy to localize advanced technologies and promote applied research with direct economic and societal impact. By enhancing the capabilities of the Nanotechnology Center, the contribution supports the center’s ability to conduct high-impact research that meets international standards, in alignment with Egypt Vision 2030 priorities related to education, innovation, and knowledge-based development.
This contribution builds on MIDAR’s ongoing support for Ain Shams University’s medical and research institutions. In 2024, the company allocated EGP 15mn to upgrade the Radiology Department at El Demerdash Hospital and establish a bone marrow transplant operating room for pediatric leukemia patients at the university’s medical city. This followed a 2023 contribution of EGP 2mn for the development of the Ophthalmology Department, bringing MIDAR’s total support to Ain Shams University to approximately EGP 82mn over the past three years.
Commenting on the collaboration, Eng. Ayman El-Kousy, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of MIDAR for Investment and Urban Development, said the company views social responsibility as an integral part of its development model, alongside its role as a master developer of large-scale, integrated urban destinations. He noted that the continued partnership with Ain Shams University for the third consecutive year reflects MIDAR’s sustained commitment to supporting Egypt’s healthcare and scientific research ecosystems.
El-Kousy added that investment in science and knowledge is essential to achieving sustainable development, emphasizing that advanced and applied sciences play a critical role in addressing challenges across key sectors, including industry, energy, healthcare, and infrastructure.
For his part, Prof. Mohamed Diaa El-Din Zain El-Abedeen, President of Ain Shams University, described the collaboration as a strong example of effective community partnership that links academic research with real-world needs. He highlighted the Nanotechnology Center’s role as a multidisciplinary research platform capable of delivering applied research with measurable economic and medical outcomes, in line with global trends in smart technologies and innovation.
At the conclusion of the signing ceremony, Ain Shams University honored Eng. Ayman El-Kousy in recognition of MIDAR’s contribution to scientific research and its role in advancing community-based partnerships. The university noted that nanotechnology remains a key driver of modern scientific progress, with wide-ranging applications across medical, industrial, and agricultural fields, supporting innovation and sustainable development goals.
