Eng. Randa El Minshawy, Minister of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities, received Eng. Belqasem Khalifa Haftar, Director General of the Libyan Development and Reconstruction Fund, along with his accompanying delegation, to discuss ways to support and enhance joint cooperation in the fields of urban development and infrastructure, Invest-Gate reports.
At the beginning of the meeting, the Minister welcomed the Libyan delegation, stressing the depth of the historical and brotherly relations between Egypt and Libya, and Egypt’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with the Libyan side across various sectors, particularly development and reconstruction.
Strengthening cooperation in urban development and knowledge transfer
El Minshawy affirmed Egypt’s full readiness to enhance joint cooperation with Libya across various development fields, supporting Libya’s development efforts through the exchange of expertise in urban development, urban planning, and infrastructure, contributing to sustainable development for the Libyan people.
She also emphasized Egypt’s commitment to transferring its pioneering experience in establishing new cities and implementing major national projects, while leveraging the extensive expertise and capabilities of Egyptian companies in executing housing, utilities, roads, and various service projects.
The Minister noted that Egypt’s urban development experience has witnessed a major leap in recent years through the implementation of several new cities and large-scale national projects, stressing that Egyptian companies now possess strong technical and executive capabilities that qualify them to efficiently contribute to development and service projects in Libya.
Libyan appreciation for Egypt’s role in reconstruction
For his part, Eng. Belqasem Khalifa Haftar expressed his appreciation for the warm reception, extending thanks to the Egyptian political leadership, government, and people for their continued support to Libya, affirming that Egypt has played a significant role in supporting reconstruction and development efforts in the country.
The Director General of the Libyan Development and Reconstruction Fund noted that Egyptian companies have proven strong efficiency in implementing various projects inside Libya, particularly in roads, infrastructure, and housing, pointing to a growing trend toward expanding contracts with Egyptian firms in the coming phase, especially in public housing and integrated development projects.
Agreement to continue coordination and future cooperation
At the end of the meeting, both sides agreed to continue coordination and cooperation on various shared files, in support of urban development efforts in Libya and to enhance the participation of Egyptian companies in reconstruction and development projects, while benefiting from Egyptian expertise in urban development and planning for new reconstruction projects and the development of existing cities.
