UAE-based retail operator Majid Al Futtaim will be providing design and development consultancy services to construct the world’s largest indoor snow and ski resort in China, Invest-Gate reports.
Majid Al Futtaim has partnered with Singaporean developer KOP Limited for Wintastar Shanghai, an integrated resort in China that is slated to open in 2022, in a move that marks the Dubai company’s first venture in a market outside the Middle East and North Africa, according to a company’s statement.
Operated by Majid Al Futtaim, the indoor ski park will stretch over an area of 90,000 square meters and is set to be over three times larger than Ski Dubai. The Shanghai park will have three ski slopes, including one of the Olympic standards for training, and 25 snow play attractions.
Other ski activities include retail, F&B, a spa, a Nordic-themed water park, show events, exhibitions, and performances.
Commenting on the partnership, Majid Al Futtaim’s CEO Ahmed Galal Ismail said, “This partnership underscores Majid Al Futtaim’s extensive knowledge and experience in designing, developing and operating indoor snow entertainment facilities that speak to changing customer and lifestyle preferences.”
“We are confident this represents the beginning of an extensive international footprint when it comes to indoor snow entertainment facilities,” the CEO added.
Majid Al Futtaim’s leisure and entertainment business currently has 127,000 square meters of operational and upcoming snow entertainment facilities in its portfolio.
