Orascom Construction and the Arab Contractors Company are partnering up to dig three tunnels under the Suez Canal that will be finalized by the end of 2018, according to Mohsen Salah, Chairman of the Arab Contractors Company, reported Amwal Elghad.
Two of the tunnels will be built in Port Said to be used by cars, while the third tunnel will be dedicated for railway.
The total cost of the three tunnels is EGP 18 billion, whereby they are expected to play a major role in strategic projects in Suez Canal, facilitating trade activities as they will link the canal cities through cars and railway, stated Salah.
The Suez Canal tunnels are considered among the vital projects constructed by the Armed Forces Engineering Authority, consisting of a network of tunnels that link several govern orates, including Ismailia, Port Said, Suez, Sinai, with the Sinai Peninsula.
