Ahaleena, an initiative supporting residents of slums in Giza, has been launched this week by the Housing Ministry Deputy for Urban and Slums Development Ahmed Adel Darwish.
Launched in cooperation with civil society, the government, and syndicates, the initiative began in the area with the assistance of doctors from Al Kasr Al Ainy hospital, who treated patients for free and gave away free medication to residents in need for treatment.
Darwish confirms that residents in the slum area shouldn’t only be considered for only new homes but also should undergo beneficial social and economic programs in efforts to achieve social justice. The initiative is expected to spread across other governorates.
