Abu Dhabi-based Aldar Properties has awarded its AED 440 million ($119 million) island community project, Nareel Island and Al Merief, a community in Khalifa City to National Projects and Construction (NPC), Construction Week Online reported.

Both development projects include the work on infrastructure, utilities and public areas, as well as marina works for Nareel Island over the course of 16 months.

“As one of the most exclusive developments in the region, Nareel Island truly brings a new level of luxury to Abu Dhabi. Meanwhile, Al Merief is set to become a welcoming, impressive new address to a burgeoning area of the capital. We are very proud of these two very distinct communities, and the enthusiasm received from the UAE National community during each announcement and sales phase,” Chief Development officer of Aldar Properties, Talal Al Dhiyebi said.

“With the appointment of NPC, we are on track for the completion of both developments in 2017.

“Nareel Island is a high-end plot development located on the coast in Al Bateen, spread over two islands. The development consists of 148 villa plots – with some units offering waterfront access – in addition to a lagoon, marina, clubhouse, open parks, private beaches, pontoons and gardens,” he added.

Earthworks, in addition to marine works, were awarded in October 2015, while construction work is progressing and revetments are close to completion. Work on the lagoon started, and dredging work on the southern island is already complete, Al Bawaba reported.

Al Merief is set across beautiful lawns including 283 plots, recreational spots and gardens, that are close to the community’s parks, Aldar Academies-operated school, and neighborhood retail centre.
