Arabian Cement Company (ACC) proudly announces the successful registration of its solar power facility under the International Renewable Energy Certificates (I-RECs) scheme, developed by the I-TRACK Organization, Invest-Gate reports.
With this milestone, ACC becomes the first cement company in Africa and the MENA region to join the global I-RECs system, cementing its role as a regional leader in industrial clean energy adoption.
Now officially recognized under the I-RECs framework, ACC’s solar facility in Suez is the first industrial project of its kind in Egypt to generate certified renewable energy at this scale.
“This achievement reflects our long-term vision to lead the cement sector in the clean energy transition—not only in Egypt but across the region,” said Sergio Alcantarilla, Chief Executive Officer of ACC. “Participating in the I-RECs system allows us to transparently demonstrate our commitment towards decarbonization, sustainable development, and overall alignment with global best practices”.
The registration was facilitated in cooperation with Ecosolis for Sustainable Development, a licensed I-RECs registrant in Cyprus. This step further highlights Egypt’s growing role as a hub for renewable energy development and corporate climate action across the MENA region. “We are thrilled to have partnered with Arabian Cement Company on this groundbreaking initiative,” said Yasmin Shokri, CEO of Ecosolis.
ACC’s leadership in joining the I-RECs scheme sets a powerful precedent for industrial players in Africa and the MENA region, showcasing a clear path towards verifiable and impactful decarbonization. This collaboration underscores the growing commitment to renewable energy and sustainable practices in the region”.
