Abdel Khaleq Ibrahim, the Assistant Minister of Housing for Technical Affairs, chaired an extensive meeting with Sangwook Lee, the Executive Vice President of the Korean KIND Foundation for Infrastructure and Urban Development Abroad, Invest-Gate reports.
The purpose of the meeting was to discuss collaborative efforts and the proposal for a master plan to transform Badr City into a smart city.
The meeting was attended by Hassan El-Laithi, Advisor to the Ministry of Housing for International Cooperation, officials from the Ministry and the Urban Communities Authority, Ammar Mandour, former head of Badr City Authority, Radwan Abdel Rashid, current head of Badr City Authority, and Amr Lashin, Director of the Governance, Legislation, and Urban Policy Program at UN-Habitat Egypt Office.
Representing the Korean side were Jae Joon Kim, head of the project team; Na Eun Jung, assistant director of the KIND Foundation; the accompanying delegation, and officials from relevant specialized companies.
Ibrahim initiated the meeting by extending a warm welcome to the attendees and providing an overview to the Korean delegation about the Ministry of Housing’s ongoing work in the New Administrative Capital (NAC), which is one of the designated smart cities in Egypt’s government action plan. He emphasized the Egyptian state’s keenness to enhance cooperation with Korea across various domains. Furthermore, he highlighted that the establishment of smart cities aligns with the ministry’s strategy of creating sustainable urban centers, along with the implementation of numerous projects in this field.
Ibrahim also reiterated the previous agreements made with the Korean side regarding the implementation of the plan to transform Badr City into a smart city. He emphasized the primary objective of the project, which entails understanding the city’s current state and genuine needs.
