Assuit Sees Several Potable Water and Sanitation Projects

Assem El Gazzar, Minister of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities, states that 23 potable water and sanitation projects have been implemented and are under construction, in addition to dozens of projects to deliver sanitation services to rural areas, Invest-Gate reports.

This includes the implementation of sanitation projects in the presidential initiative “Hayah Karima” to develop the Egyptian countryside and serve the people of Assiut and the National Authority of Potable Water and Sewage is implementing these projects.

Moreover, the implementation of 4 drinking water projects in Assiut has been completed, namely, the Dairut water plant and its networks with a capacity of 86,000 m3/day at a cost of EGP 385 mn and 3 units of iron and manganese (Bani Ghaleb – Massra – Al Hamra) and two drinking water projects are being implemented as completion of the networks of the Dairut water station and the expansions of Abnoub and Al Fath water station.

The minister indicates that the implementation of 8 sewage projects have been completed, and 9 sewage plants are being implemented as part of the presidential initiative projects “Hayah Karima” to develop the Egyptian countryside in Assiut.

Ehab Khader, chairman of the National Authority for Drinking Water and sewage, states that the total number of rural areas served by sanitation in Assiut is 13 rural areas, inhabited by 304,000 people as 9.4% of the population of the rural areas, and the service has been connected to 188 rural areas. In addition, 150 areas are part of the presidential initiative “Hayah Karima” with a population of 2 mn and 452,000 people representing 75.5% of the population of rural areas.
