Egypt plans to establish the largest medical tourism city in the MENA region, situated at Badr City, east Cairo, with costs valued at EGP 20 bn, Invest-Gate reports.
Head of Badr City Development Authority Ammar Mandour revealed that works will start on the 109-acre project. Set for completion within five years, the new medical city is expected to be the largest of its kind in the MENA region, according to a released statement on June 7.
Mandour also underlined that 90% of the city’s investments are pumped by Egyptians, noting that the preliminary inspection of the project site has been already carried out.
“The medical city will bring the latest in medical sciences, as well as modern techniques in medical devices,” the official noted, adding, “The project will include 13 medical institutes with a capacity of 2,000 beds, a medical helipad, a teaching hospital, and healing gardens.”
Meanwhile, General Secretary of Badr University and Medical City Mohamed Soliman explained that 10% of the medical city’s beds will be earmarked for Egyptians who are unable to afford healthcare treatment.
“Pursuant to the planned timeframes, medical services will be provided following the completion of the project’s first phase, which is set to be finalized within 30 months from the implementation date,” Soliman unveiled.
Furthermore, he pointed out that the board will seek foreign companies’ latest expertise for the medical city’s administration during the first five years of operation, until the training of Egyptian doctors, staff, and other members is finalized.
