Breaking News: Egypt Imposes Nationwide Curfew as of March 25

Egypt imposes nationwide COVID-19 curfew as of Wednesday March 25,2020 to counter the pandemic outbreak.

Starting Wednesday March 25 evening, Egypt will impose a nationwide curfew from 7 pm till 6 am, therefore tightening measures to counter the spread of coronavirus.

Egypt is imposing a partial curfew from 7 pm to 6 am as of Wednesday morning for two weeks as part of stricter measures to limit the spread of the coronavirus, Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly said on Tuesday March 24. Public and private transport will also be suspended during that period.

Furthermore, the previous closure of schools and universities has been extended for two more weeks till mid April. Entertainment outlets, including restaurants and cafes are to be completely closed till then. Commercial entities such as shops and shopping malls are to close at 6 pm until 5 am. This decision does not include bakeries, supermarkets, and pharmacies. Additionally, all sports clubs are also to shut down.

All ministries and governmental entities are to halt all civil services as well expect for the issuing of birth and death certificates. Moreover, the number of the workforce across all public and private sectors are to be cut to the maximum possible. The government has issued a fine of EGP 4,000 for those who break the law.

Egypt, which has so far declared 366 cases and 19 deaths, has closed schools and universities, theaters and cinemas, its land borders and suspended international flights. It has also halted all sporting events and imposed restrictions on the duration of prayers last week.
