Cairo to Impose Penalties on Non-law Abiding Commercial Units

Governor of Cairo Atef Abdel Hamid has prohibited owners of commercial units in neighborhoods from conducting any street violation and misuse of facilities else they face a EGP 10,000 penalty or a prison sentence, Invest-Gate reports.

Commercial units’ owners are also obliged to install surveillance cameras and trash bins, as well as avoid conducting their commercial activity outside garages, state lands, and illegally-built buildings, according to a released governorate statement.

Abdel Hamid urged local authorities to follow up on neighborhoods’ organization and cleanliness, which came as part of a meeting held earlier where he met with heads of local authorities, parliamentary representatives, and central administrators.
