Four Seasons Hotel Cairo at The First Residence, west Cairo, has been named the first hotel in Egypt to install and operate an electric car charging station, which is now fully operational, on the back of the government’s efforts in gearing towards a more eco-friendly economy, Invest-Gate reports.
The new charging station works with a variety of vehicles, such as plug-in electric vehicles and hybrids. For a fully charged battery, vehicles have to be charged for eight straight hours, however, a two-hour charging session is enough for a 500-kilometer drive, according to the Bahrain-based online business news portal on February 5.
Speaking on the move, Mahmoud ElKeiy, the hotel’s general manager, said, “We pride ourselves as the first hotel in Egypt to install an electric car-charging station,” adding, “It is essential we protect the environment, which not only will save gas emissions and energy but it will also empower our guests to live sustainably and become a valuable convenience for them to use during their stay with us.”
In its statement, the hotel group hailed the state’s efforts into turning the north African country into an emission-free nation, pinpointing, “Egypt has made headway in working towards a more eco-friendly economy. The country has one the world’s biggest solar panel and wind-turbine farms, and the government has recently reported that it is looking into building its first locally-produced electric car.”
Throughout its years of operation, Four Seasons has been engaging in sustainable practices that conserve natural resources and dwindle its environmental impact via involving its employees and guests in the common goal of preserving and protecting the Earth. Duly, sustainable tourism will bolster the destinations where the hotel group runs for the forthcoming generations.
