Cop27 Kicks off in Sharm El-Sheikh on Sunday

The 2022 United Nations Climate Change Conference, referred to as Conference of the Parties (COP27) starts on Sunday, November 6th, in Sharm El-Sheikh, Invest-Gate reports.

During the event ending November 18th, Egypt will announce its national strategy for green hydrogen production, implemented in cooperation with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and the Arab Union for Sustainable Development and Environment (AUSDE).

The strategy will help Egypt to contribute 8% of the global hydrogen market.

COP27 is expected to feature the participation of delegations from around 200 countries, more than 120 heads of state and over 40,000 other participants, the highest number ever for a climate summit on the continent.

Several themed days for focused discussions have been designated, which will include side events, panel discussions, and roundtables.

The themed days are Finance Day, Adaptation and Agriculture Day, Water Day, Decarbonization Day, Science Day, Solution Day, Gender Day, Energy Day, Biodiversity Day, Youth and Future Generations Day, and ACE and Civil Society Day.

It is worth noting that Egypt has been working on reducing its carbon emissions through many projects, including introducing eco-friendly mass transportation that runs on electricity, such as light rail transit (LRT), the monorail, and bus rapid transit (BRT).

Egypt plans to boost its green investments to 50% of the total public investments by 2024/2025, up from 40% currently.
