Crédit Agricole, Schneider Electric Launch Sustainable Projects in Egypt

Crédit Agricole Egypt Foundation and Schneider Electric SE sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Gebal for Agriculture, Sustainability, and Livelihoods to begin sustainable development projects in the Menoufia governorate’s villages of Shubra Qubala and Mit El Qasri, Invest-Gate reports.

These projects will address the villages’ water, food, and energy needs by installing solar-powered greenhouses, fishponds, chicken incubators, irrigation pumps, and a compost unit to recycle agricultural waste.

The Mit El Qasri project includes greenhouses, fishponds, chicken incubators, and a compost unit, all powered by solar energy.

In Shubra Qubala, three solar-powered irrigation pumps will water about 700 feddans, cutting diesel costs and improving the quality of agriculture.

About 26,000 residents and 700 farmers will benefit. These projects aim to boost crop output by 40 tons, hatch 12,000 chicks per year, and produce 3,000 fish annually. Besides, they will cut carbon emissions by 68 tons a year and save 70% of water.

“Sustainability comes at the core of Schneider Electric’s culture and purpose,” says Sebastien Riez, Cluster President of Schneider Electric Northeast Africa & Levant, adding that “The cooperation with Crédit Agricole Egypt Foundation to launch development projects in Menoufia Governorate will enable to comprehensively support and effectively develop local communities.”

“This partnership is a testament to our commitment to leverage the expertise and resources of the two organizations to create sustainable solutions to benefit the largest number of beneficiaries,” states Jean-Pierre Trinelle, Chairman of Crédit Agricole Egypt Foundation for Development and Managing Director of Crédit Agricole Egypt.

The MoU was signed by Sebastien Riez, Cluster President of Schneider Electric Northeast Africa & Levant, Jean-Pierre Trinelle, Chairman of Crédit Agricole Egypt Foundation and Managing Director of Crédit Agricole Egypt, and Mohsen Nawara, Co-founder and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Gebal for Agriculture, Sustainability, and Livelihoods, in addition to various invitees of experts, governmental bodies, civil society, and representatives of several major companies in Egypt.

It is worth highlighting that the MoU was signed in the presence of H.E. Marc Baréty, French Ambassador to Egypt, and Lamis Negm, CSR Advisor to the Governor at the Central Bank of Egypt.
