Minister of Local Development Ahmed Zaky Badr has approved the people’s request to extend their leases for the new units from 3 years to 7 years, state-owned media reported.
Governor of Sohag Dr. Ayman Abdel Moneim announced on January 20, “Families living in the shelter buildings at the western district will receive the leases for the new housing units in Awlad Azzaz village in Sohag.”
He also added that a public draw was made to accommodate 180 families in modern residential units in Awlad Azzaz village, who have been living in prone- to- collapse buildings that have received removal decrees six years ago.
This action was taken following the Minister of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities, Mostafa Madbouly approving the selling of eight buildings worth of EGP 23 mn to the governorate of Sohag to solve the problem.
Abdel Moneim explained that he has been coordinating with Madbouly to provide adequate housing for the less fortunate, particularly those living in slum areas, prioritizing the residents of old buildings including four buildings in Sheikh Khalifa area, western district.
