Deputy Housing Minister Convenes with Committee Examining Drinking Water, Sanitation Services in Matrouh

Sayed Ismail, Deputy Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities for Infrastructure Affairs, has convened a meeting with the committee tasked with evaluating the state of drinking water and sanitation services under the jurisdiction of the Matrouh Water and Wastewater Company, Invest-Gate reports.

The objective was to identify the company’s key needs, prioritize essential requirements, and allocate the necessary funding for implementation.

The meeting took place at the company’s headquarters in the presence of Mohamed Hassan Mustafa, CEO of the Water, Wastewater, and Consumer Protection Regulatory Agency, and Assem Shukr, Vice Chairman of the Holding Company and Chairman of Matrouh Drinking Water and Wastewater Company. This meeting was in line with the directives of Sherif El Sherbini, Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities.

During the session, Ismail received a comprehensive briefing from Matrouh Water and Wastewater Company officials regarding the current provision of drinking water and wastewater services to residents, the region’s requirements in these areas, and the identification of necessary projects. These projects include enhancing the Rumaila and Salloum desalination plants, constructing a new desalination facility with a capacity of 2,000 m3/day in Salloum city, and expanding the Cleopatra desalination plant to 10,000 m3/day.

Additionally, Ismail and the Ministry’s delegation inspected the Sidi Abdel Rahman and El Alamein drinking water pumping stations to monitor progress and ensure the continued efficiency of operational and maintenance processes at these sites.

Emphasizing the importance of upholding the highest performance standards for operational and maintenance practices to safeguard assets, Ismail highlighted the necessity of regular monitoring of electromechanical equipment and adherence to operational standards to guarantee the delivery of water services at an optimal level.
