Sayed Ismail, the Deputy Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities for Infrastructure Affairs, received officials from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) to discuss the Green City Action Plan outcomes for the 6th of October City, Invest-Gate reports.
Moreover, the meeting was attended by representatives from the Project Management Unit (PMU) of the Ministry of Housing, representatives from the New Urban Communities Authority and the 6th of October City Agency, and the consulting team from specialized offices.
This aligns with the directives of the Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities Assem El-Gazzar regarding monitoring ongoing projects through development partners and providing support to implementing entities.
Ismail began his speech by welcoming the attendees and expressing gratitude to the EBRD representatives for their generous support of the Ministry of Housing, Utilities, and New Urban Communities.
Furthermore, Ismail emphasized that the bank’s participation in its flagship program for urban sustainability serves as a regional example for the development of future cities, ensuring a green and safe urban environment for all. This is integral to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals in line with Egypt’s Vision 2030.
During the meeting, the consulting team presented the main results of the study based on initial indicators, evaluated the current situation of the infrastructure sectors in the 6th of October City, and highlighted the key priority challenges for each sector. They also discussed the necessary measures to address these challenges, define the city’s vision and main objectives for each sector, and develop a project package to achieve sustainability.
In the same context, the presentation included significant projects in the water and sanitation sector, such as expanding the installation of smart meters, improving energy efficiency, and expanding wastewater treatment plants.
Ismail clarified that selecting the 6th of October City as a green city was a wise decision, considering it as one of the largest four new cities and its proximity to the New Delta.
Currently, the EBRD is implementing several projects in Egypt as part of the partnership, including the “Green Cities” program. This program aims to identify the environmental challenges of cities, improve the quality of life, and build a better and more sustainable future.
