Minister of Transport Kamel El Wazir has discussed with an African Development Bank (AfDB) delegation a potential joint investment in the planned Cairo-Cape Town highway project, Invest-Gate reports.
Both parties agreed to pump investments for linking Khartoum with the Argeen border crossing, located on the west side of Lake Nasser, between Egypt and Sudan, coming as part of the Cairo-Cape Town Road, according to an official statement on November 25.
Extending over 10,228 kilometers long, connecting Egypt and South Africa, along with in-between countries such as Botswana, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Tanzania, Kenya, Ethiopia, and Sudan, the Cairo-Cape Town Road marks a key pillar for trade collaboration in Africa for integrating the entire continent.
Being developed in collaboration with the African Union, the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, and AfDB, the megaproject is aimed at maximizing economic exploitation and generating numerous job opportunities, the statement noted.
In the field of railways, the two sides called for the swift completion of studies related to the installation of the main lines for the new trackside signaling device, or the European Train Control System (ETCS) Level 1 technology, putting safety and security at the heart of their plan.
