Egypt, China Explore Opportunities to Strengthen Bilateral Cooperation

Sherif El Sherbini, Minister of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities, met this morning with Ni Hong, Chinese Minister of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, and Liao Liqiang, Chinese Ambassador to Cairo, along with their accompanying delegation, to discuss ways to enhance and deepen joint cooperation between Egypt and China, Invest-Gate reports.

This meeting took place on the sidelines of the third day of the 12th World Urban Forum (WUF12).

El Sherbini welcomed Ni Hong, Liao Liqiang, and their delegation to Egypt for their participation in WUF12, which features broad international participation.

El Sherbini emphasized the ministry’s commitment to consolidating and enhancing cooperation with the Chinese Ministry of Housing in various areas of joint work, in line with the strong relations between Egypt and China and in implementation of the directives from the political leadership of both countries.

He highlighted the Egyptian government’s intention, represented by the Ministry of Housing, to localize industries related to the construction and building sector, implement utility projects locally, and collaborate on joint projects with the Chinese side in the industrial zones of new cities.

Additionally, El Sherbini mentioned the potential for cooperation with the Chinese side in attracting investments for hotel projects, particularly in the New Administrative Capital and New Alamein.

He stressed that there are numerous investment opportunities available to Chinese investors and that Egypt is committed to providing the necessary support to encourage foreign direct investment.

Furthermore, he noted the importance of collaboration in implementing projects under the presidential initiative “Decent Life” aimed at developing the Egyptian countryside.

For his part, the Chinese minister acknowledged that Egypt is experiencing significant progress in various fields of urban development and that many opportunities for future cooperation exist. He praised the success of the Egyptian government in organizing the activities of WUF12, which achieved a record number of participants and both official and unofficial delegations.
