Egypt secured a historic victory at El Gouna IGFA Red Sea Championship, clinching the top three positions in the tournament, Invest-Gate reports. The event, the largest of its kind in the Middle East, attracted over 70 professional anglers from nine countries across three continents under the International Game Fish Association (IGFA) and was supported by Egypt’s Ministries of Environment and Youth & Sports, along with the Egyptian Angling Federation.

During the award ceremony, winners of the top three positions were honored, alongside prizes for Best Angler and Biggest Fish. Team Bimini from El Gouna claimed first place, securing the only direct qualification spot for the World Game Fish Championship in Costa Rica next year. Team Nubian took second place, while Sporting Club secured third.

In individual categories, Richard Chalhoub from Team El Gouna won Best Angler and placed second in the Biggest Fish (Dogtooth Tuna) category. South Africa’s Martin Lewis won the Biggest Fish (Yellowfin Tuna) award and finished second for Best Angler. Fawzan Omar from Saudi Arabia placed third for Best Angler, while Mohamed Al-Darrat secured third place for Biggest Fish (Dogtooth Tuna).

El Gouna CEO Mohamed Amer praised the participants and congratulated the Egyptian teams, expressing pride in the tournament’s success. He emphasized El Gouna’s ambition to host the Game Fish World Cup in 2028, positioning it as a global hub for marine sports.

Amer highlighted El Gouna’s world-class infrastructure, which provided an unparalleled experience for international visitors. He noted that El Gouna is not just a tourist destination but a model for excellence in hosting international events, combining luxury with sustainability.

As one of Egypt’s leading sustainable tourist destinations, El Gouna boasts six kite-surfing centers, nine diving schools, and a sailing club, making it a premier hub for international and local sporting events. With 18 world-class hotels, the city continues to enhance Egypt’s global tourism appeal, solidifying its position as a top-tier event host.
