Egypt Launches The New Delta Project

Under President of Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi’s directives, Egypt launches a new national project for integrated agricultural development The New Delta Project, Invest-Gate reports.

The project aims to reclaim and cultivate more than 1 mn acres for food sustainability to meet the population’s needs, according to an official statement on March 31.

Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation Mohamed El Quseir states that this national project is distinguished by its prime location near the ancient delta. “A specialized team in the field of land studies in cooperation with the Faculties of Agriculture from Cairo and Alexandria Universities intensify their efforts to implement three phases of field studies in three months from January to March to study the available lands for the project,” he elaborates.

“The study which is conducted on an area of ​​688,000 acres reveals that more than 90% of the area is suitable for agriculture. There is a possibility for expansion in the future, according to the availability of additional water sources,” the minister highlights.

The Minister of Agriculture indicates that the project is located on the Rawd al-Farag axis – Dabaa. ​​The Mostakbal Misr project and the New Delta together span over an area of 1 mn acres. This integrated project is based on the optimum utilization of non-conventional sources of irrigation water, where a giant plant will be established to treat agricultural wastewater.

The project also includes residential complexes and other various facilities, internal road networks. It is also intended to apply modern irrigation systems and maximize the productivity of the land and water units.

On his part, President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi indicates accelerating the implementation phases to one phase instead of three to shorten the project implementation period to two years at most.
