Egyptian Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities Assem El-Gazzar inspected the Obour City drinking water purification plant, with a 1 million cubic meter daily capacity, Invest-Gate reports.
The minister was accompanied by officials from the ministry, the New Urban Communities Authority, the Egyptian Water and Wastewater Regulatory Agency (EWRA), and the Obour City Development Authority.
The large plant, feeding from the Ismailia Canal, supplies Obour City and New Cairo, New Obour, Badr, Al Nahda, and Al Salam cities.
El-Gazzar stressed the need to closely monitor the performance of operating and maintenance companies to ensure top-quality service and standard maintenance as per international specifications.
He sent a strong message giving the companies one week to measure performance improvement rates, or else necessary measures will be taken.
The Minister toured the water plant to inspect components, follow work progress, and examine periodic water sampling mechanisms at the central lab to ensure quality.
The Head of the Obour City Development Authority and other officials briefed him on the plant’s operations.
