Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly chaired a high-level meeting on Tuesday to review progress at the Giza Pyramids archaeological site and plans to transform the nearby Nazlet El-Semman area into a major tourist destination, Invest-Gate reports.
The meeting was attended by key ministers and officials, including Tourism and Antiquities Minister Sherif Fathy, Housing Minister Sherif El-Sherbiny, and Presidential Advisor for Local Development Khaled Fouda.
Madbouly stressed the importance of preserving and upgrading the iconic heritage site, calling for a unified effort to implement the development plan and ensure a smooth visitor experience that reflects the historical significance of the area.
Tourism Minister Sherif Fathy noted that the upgrades are aligned with the cultural value of the site, aiming to improve the overall tourist experience. He said ongoing monitoring of the trial operation is helping to address challenges and build on positives.
Fathy added that the site welcomed around 15,000 visitors in a single day, marking a 25% increase compared to the launch day of the trial period. Access from the Cairo-Fayoum gate and visitor movement within the site was described as smooth.
Presidency spokesperson Mohamed El-Homsany stated the meeting also covered the new visitor centre, the shuttle bus system, and the management of horse and camel rides. The strategic vision for Nazlet El-Semman includes urban regeneration and sustainable tourism, with the area expected to gain more significance following the opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum.
