Egypt is targeting completion of the second phase of relocating government agencies to the New Administrative Capital east of Cairo, with 19 ministries and agencies set to begin the transfer process next week, Invest-Gate reports.
The Cabinet this week reviews preparations for the transfers, which follow the relocation of 14 ministries and entities in the first phase, Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly states.
The prime minister says the Cabinet has fully moved its operations to the new capital. He recently visited the transportation and housing ministries, both of which have completed their transfers, and will visit more of the new headquarters.
Madbouly directs that the remaining ministries quickly conclude their relocation. Relocated employees start getting familiar with the new headquarters and transportation means, he adds.
The prime minister announces that housing units allocated to applicants will be handed over in the coming days.
Last week, President Abdel Fatah El-Sisi visited the new capital’s Strategic Command headquarters to assess progress on relocating ministries and government bodies.
Egypt began constructing the new capital, with a planned capacity of 6.5 mn residents, in 2015 under El-Sisi’s vision of building a modern center of government.
