The government is planning to establish a solar power station and factory to produce solar panels from silica sand, Invest-Gate reports.
The project will produce photovoltaic panels from sand through several production stages following studies that will be conducted worth KWD 200,000 given from the Kuwaiti Fund For Arab Economic Development (KFAED) to the Ministry of Military Production. The funding is part of the government’s plan to boost the country’s solar energy sector and be able to secure 20% of the electricity produced from renewable energy sources by 2022.
The project is expected to be ready within two or three years following the completion of the feasibility study, according to a released statement.
The announcement of the project comes following the signing of a contract by Minister of Investment International Cooperation Sahar Nasr, Minister of Military Production Mohamed El Assar, and Minister of Electricity Mohamed Shaker on Wednesday.
